Description: c. 1830. This is a full scale chest with magnificently figured mahogany. The bow front is quite dramatic, and is further enhanced by flanking stately columns with beautifully carved capitals. The cabinetry is absolutely first class. It retains its original wooden pulls, and of note is the wood base below the paw feet, which are all of the same stock. This piece came to us with a related bureau (sw01085); both are illustrated in Philadelphia Empire Furniture, Boor, p.463.
