Description: Circa 1550. This wonderful jewel box is profusely engraved on all sides with figures of men and women wearing 16th century attire. It also has arabesque foliage and geometric patterns. Every aspect of this rare box is original including the key. The elaborate interior locking mechanism is fully engraved and operational and retains much of its original bleuing. The interior of the box also retains its original leather lining. Overall this is a rare museum quality piece which one seldom sees.
NOTE: Nuremberg was the leading center for suits of armor as well as other items made of iron and steel.
